Thread For applications Through SYDNEY (AUSTRALIA) Office

I used WridgWays (sp?) when I shipped a lot of stuff over in 2011 (so it's a bit out of date now) They were really good, waiting until they had a whole container to ship, so I waited longer for my stuff, but saved $$$ on paying who a whole (half-empty) sea-can. They kept me up-to-date on the...

Bill C-24 Second Reading on February 27th:

Hi Everyone, Most of the posters seem to be focussed on the date the bill passes through parliament. However, if you look at the actual bill most of it doesn't come into force then. It won't come into force until it's proclaimed by the Governor in Council. This is probably because the bill...

    Need guidance(child born outside Canada)

PMM, did you mean 'putative' not 'punitive' (although the behaviour of the (putative) father here might be punitive as well if he's denying being the Dad!!)

Fun post: How many absences from Canada do you have? I have 36 absences/288 days

I can't apply until later this year, but so far I have 0. I have taken two day trips across the border - but as single days, not over-night stays, they don't count. I anticipate when I fill in the form in October that I will still be at 0. Maybe I will get an RQ as CIC will think I'm lying and...

    UK architect?

Oh wowsers - that sounds great. Why don't you contact the team at 'Grand Designs' - it would be an amazing episode - all the tension and drama of a UK architect trying to get approvals in Canada ... I can picture it already :) Plus, I'm totally missing Kevin McCloud !!!

Devastated at how long it's taking ( over 4 months since passport request)

That's too bad. :( Take some consolation from the fact that at least you know that they are working on your file. Good luck

    New Rules for Citizenship

Yeah I hear you! Unlike you, none of my pre PR time counted, but it's still a whole extra year of waiting to apply (then who knows how long it will take to process). I haven't been out of Canada for a single day since I got PR ... but I still have to do the extra year :(

Thanks to those here that have completed the process...but still offer help.

You need the travel details for any of the days that you are using in your citizenship application (you need 1095 days in Canada) so if you become a PR and NEVER leave Canada you can apply after 3 years exactly. If you've been out of Canada you need to have made the 1095 days, so it might be...

I still lurk around here trying to be helpful while I count down the days to filing my citizenship application. Getting PR was just one step...

Do we need Valid PR Card for Citizenship, other concerns

Could you show your employer your SIN card? I remember that when I was on a temporary work visa I was issued a SIN that started with the number 9. I recall that the "9" signified that the SIN was limited in time (to the date my work visa expired). Then when I landed as a PR I got a new SIN...

Japan - visit while awaiting PR question

Hi Kayaker Just seconding what bartjones said based on my own experience. I visited my husband during our processing (like your wife I'm visa-exempt). I made sure to have plenty of evidence that I would return to my home country. I had a return ticket, a letter from my employer saying that I...

Devastated at how long it's taking ( over 4 months since passport request)

I don't really think you're getting a chilly response here. Posters are sharing what information they can, I think Scyalla's post about the 'bring-forward dates' and setting aside applications while further documentation is being provided is absolutely correct in your case. Whilst you were...

Canadian girl about to marry American boyfriend - wedding questions

I had a really small courthouse wedding too! Less than 10 guests at our wedding 'reception' (dinner in a nice restaurant). It didn't cause any problems for us (approved very quickly with no interview) We are an Australian / Canadian couple and married when my Canadian spouse visited my in...

Long distance couple: becoming common-law on working holiday? Work permit?

I think three things helped us: We had solid /good evidence (we had a mortgage together (which shows a serious commitment) and good letters of support, including from his Mom as well as friends) We had no red flags - same language, no big age gap, I'm an Australian citizen so I'm visa exempt...
