Not expert here, and frankly a little groggy this day -- but research this very well before choosing credit vs. exclusion. If I remember right, the credit is usually recommended because unused credit can be carried forward. Or maybe its the other way around. So my point is to be pretty sure...

Congratulations to you! It does amaze me that they'd use email addresses, but not require any verification step. Being a governmental agency, you'd think that they'd be quite concerned that they're talking to the right person.

Question on taxes & residency: Its clear to me that the US IRS continues to tax US Citizens resident in Canada (as well as anywhere else). But what is the situation w/ state taxes? Does your last state of residence have a claim?
