If you don't get the approval in time for Jan intake, will you be deferring again? I'm dreading the possibility of that happening. Also I've heard some people use virtual SIMs which allocate them Canadian numbers to contact IRCC but I don't think I'd take the risk of lying to the agent at CPC...

I applied from India via non-SDS because the trends at the time suggested it would process faster than SDS. Was your LoA for Winter semester or did you have to defer from Sept '22 intake to Jan '23 intake?

whoa that's a terribly long wait. did you raise any webforms after the 13-week mark and did you get any response? I applied on Aug 18th and got BVL on Sept 13th and it's been radio silence since then, no responses to webforms either.
