You can check via tracker account but still you need the verification code which will be sent to the registered email when applied, also assuming that you have your UCI number.

As per my knowledge Schengen visa can be applied either from home country or the country of residence but not in a country where you hold a temporary status which is a visitor this applies to most country's visas as well.

Original Passport Request. No one gets the visa number in separate email or notification. You gadda check in tracker account for that. Create one if you dont have one & check. GCKEY account if different from this account.
