As for AVR - AVR has nothing to do with landing as long as you have valid passport, I797 approved and a job you should be able to comeback, check with your company attorney.

My passport expired recently I had to renew my passport. My stamped but expired H1-B visa is in old passport. Can I carry both old and new passport and be eligible for automatic revalidation ?
