Appears that the IRCC literally screwed up

What a load of crap; beyond the typical bias, seething in stupid BS with obvious malice . . . deliberately distributing disinformation . . . not the least of which is presenting this as about persons applying for citizenship when it has nothing, nothing at all to do with applying for...

    Got reported 44(1)

While I largely concur in many of the observations in @armoured's first response, the main one is to "stay and ride it out" . . . that is, IF settling, working, and living in Canada permanently is indeed your priority. This is echoed by @canuck78 . . . and by @scylla . . . and is something I...

Canadian PR Entry Concerns: Crossing Canada border with Family from Detroit USA without meeting Residency Obligation

. Apart from how you choose to proceed in regards to the status of your child, who unlike you is not a Canadian (does not have status as a Canadian PR or as a Canadian citizen), it should be OK (probably preferrable) to wait-and-see what happens next before taking any action. That is, as long...

Canadian PR Entry Concerns: Crossing Canada border with Family from Detroit USA without meeting Residency Obligation

Not relevant. Italy's situation, and its immigration objectives, and its immigration challenges, as a nation that is a member of the European Union and unlike Canada not just in terms of climate, size, or population density (Italy having a population density around 24 times Canada's), and even...

Canadian PR Entry Concerns: Crossing Canada border with Family from Detroit USA without meeting Residency Obligation

Some observations: I generally steer wide of discussing what should be Canadian immigration policy, law, or rules. With some exceptions*** and distinguishing what practices should be employed, since what the practice should be depends on what will effect/implement the policies, laws, and rules...

PR Card Successfully Renewed for Sponsored Parents - H&C Grounds / Not meeting RO

This has been referenced and discussed multiple times in this thread. So, yes, whether applying online or using the interactive PDF application form, the applicant must declare whether they are in Canada or not, and they can only proceed with making a PR card application if the [IN-Canada] box...

PR Card Successfully Renewed for Sponsored Parents - H&C Grounds / Not meeting RO

A legitimate success story or . . . There is a lot we do not know about how all this went down, and there are significant incongruities in the OP's reporting, including some evasiveness and indications of misrepresentation. This includes what the OP reports here, where there are no significant...

Refugee status cessation and PRs applying for citizenship

Catching up . . . As I have acknowledged, I have been lax following new cessation cases. There have been numerous cessation and cessation-related decisions within the last six months or so which have not been mentioned here in the forum. I will get to citing and linking several of them, with...

Refugee status cessation and PRs applying for citizenship

. Reference and link are appreciated. As one might expect from cessation cases in recent years, there is little news in Yilmaz v. Canada (Citizenship and Immigration), 2026 FC 625, which is here: https://canlii.ca/t/kkzpx In this regard it is much like other decisions during the last few...

Leaving Canada for extended period of time after applying for Citizenship

. Given the relatively short timeline since applying, it would be premature to say there is much, if any delay at this stage. That said, it is likely the applicant will not be able to take the oath until they are physically IN Canada, and some local offices will only schedule the oath after...

Way forward after Subsection 44(1) Report

Best source of advice would be a qualified immigration lawyer. (Reminder: it's tough to get what you pay for from lawyers, so it's a no-brainer what a free consultation is worth, which is about what you paid for. Still, once tangled in inadmissibility proceedings, best to lawyer-up, or at the...

    Non-Routine Citizenship Applications (2024–2025) – Timelines

"Non-routine" has long been a description of applications subject to any inquiry or processing that is outside the standard processing of a citizenship application. It is not a status or a category of applications, even though many use the term that way, as something of a label. IRCC says that...

    2023 Citizenship Applications

. Some Clarifications: There is a big difference in whether a delay is due to unverified language ability, continuing assessment of prohibitions (which includes criminality and security background clearance involving referrals to either CBSA/NSSD or CSIS for investigation), or investigation...

Canadian PR Entry Concerns: Crossing Canada border with Family from Detroit USA without meeting Residency Obligation

Another Tangent . . . If it is determined you are in breach of the RO and there are sufficient H&C considerations to allow you to keep your PR status, it should be safe to proceed with a new PR card application (still clearly request H&C relief in the application and follow the instructions...

Canadian PR Entry Concerns: Crossing Canada border with Family from Detroit USA without meeting Residency Obligation

Health care coverage . . . health card . . . tangent . . . Echo response by @canuck78 . . . moreover, since PR status does not expire (can be terminated but it does not expire), there is no functional correlation between the date a PR card expires (having no effect on continuing validity of...

Canadian PR Entry Concerns: Crossing Canada border with Family from Detroit USA without meeting Residency Obligation

If you have established a relationship with an immigration lawyer, at least to the extent you have paid a lawyer to give you advice based on a detailed review of your particular situation (thus more than a free consultation), the lawyer would be a far, far better source of "input" about engaging...

    PR Renewal Residency Clarification

. Longer Explanation Toward Offering A Better Understanding . . . Given the framing of your question in terms of wanting to better understand the exception pursuant to which a PR can get credit for time outside Canada, I will offer some information (not mere opinion) with reference to...

    PR Renewal Residency Clarification

. In general, the Residency Obligation exception allowing credit toward meeting the RO for time outside Canada while "employed on a full-time basis by a Canadian business," pursuant to Section 28 2(2)(a)((iii) IRPA, is narrowly applied and those PRs relying on such credit to comply with the RO...

Citizenship 'consultants' - are there any official requirements like for immigration consultants?

At the risk of taking the bait . . . Citizenship 'consultants' - are there any official requirements like for immigration consultants? Temptation too strong to avoid asking: What? Really? Maybe make that Hunnh? Or, is the query deliberately sarcastic (oddly framed if that is the case)? As if...

    Lawyer for mandamus

Your Particular Questions . . . I have been working on responding to your other questions . . . . . . . but the need to lawyer-up issue is the main one, and that includes why it is important to lawyer-up. The why is important but complicated, not easy to explain. This is not just about...
