Funny that they define a routine application as something that’s within the normal timeline — it only becomes non routine if it exceeds, as if it’s not related to their procedures itself. Either way today I learned my PO is Vancouver, could be why it is so bad. Still waiting for GCMS.- dzx

I don’t think it can be extensive if it’s randomly selected. I was born in China and never been to anywhere other than Canada since I was a teenager. If they randomly select people it’s more likely for process quality assurance reasons, same with random interviews.- dzx

As far as I am aware FP request is only for criminality (they want to root out the possibility the applicant committed an indictable offense). Some people simply clear it without needing FP. That seems to be the first stage of background. Then if you never got FP but are otherwise in process...- dzx

Seems very random and could be bad luck they picked us for a random check. In my case it could be because I changed addresses too frequently (I’m a university student). Either way I try to not speculate and just wait for the ATIP.- dzx

Thanks, this is very strange. I called IRCC but they said I’m in the second stage of the background check and my application is routine. Could mean that they initialized a security clearance on a random basis but not a comprehensive check. Either way I requested CBSA notes to find out. The...- dzx

May 18 applicant Physical presence 1097 Jun 20 AOR Aug 15 Test complete Ghost update Aug 30 (no background update) Still no background or LPP Judging from PR experience a GCMS request might trigger an update, not sure if it applies here but I applied anyways just to see what’s going on.- dzx
