Got an R-1 but have not met the 2 year residency requirement

I warn the caveats in the thread above, and it still may be worth consulting a lawyer, or waiting until you have good docs of being in Canada, etc. Because as has been pointed out - logically - what is written in the books and procedures is a decent starting point, but practice unfortunately...

Received PFL for PRTD Application - Need assistance

I will repeat what I frequently say: even arguments that people here consider 'weak' should be included, and statements such as 'won't be considered an H&C reason' I don't believe are correct (unless clearly unrelated or fatuous). Arguments are not considered alone, but overall, and must be...

Parents are Canadian PR, and the child was born in the US

    1. Basically yes. They will want to specify they will sponsor the child soon, or that a sponsorship is in progress. 2. They can't apply before one of them is already in Canada, they will need to do so, it's not hard, but will usually take 4-12 months. 3. Not an expert - check OHIP site. I...

Ontario Photo ID for Canadian Citizenship Application. Is that acceptable ?

Yes, it's the exact substitute for driver's license (it used to be known as the Age of Majority card, in Ontario at least). The entire purpose of the Ontario Photo ID Card (and equivalent in other provinces) is to serve as ID for those who do not have driver's licenses - and indeed in most...

    April 2025 - Citizenship Applications

I believe it's an automatic exemption. But if he's old enough, study with him - he'll probably know more of the stuff than you.

Confused about the question : "Have you ever used any other name?" in citizenship application

I would agree. While traditional Canadian usage (save in Quebec) is that the marriage certificate gives you the right to change your name (use your spouse's family name), it's not required. In other words, if she doesn't use it, she didn't change her name or use it. (Getting invited to...

Application Online for over 54 y/o person

You've done something incorrectly in the application. I did this recently for a family member - either by age it knows it's not required, or you select a drop down where you don't do it because of age, but it will say not needed because >55 years of age.

    Spousal sponsorship

Your answer was posted by @scylla above: "Do you mean that IRCC assigned a number? If so, that is an administrative step and doesn't indicate final approval. PPR could be anywhere from a few days to a few months from now."

If PRTD application under H&C considerations is rejected

I was comparing at land border vs applying for a PRTD. Airport not relevant* because those who need a PRTD cannot board a plane (that's why they need the PRTD). PRTD refusal rates seem MUCH higher than at land border. *There is a case of those PRs who can fly even if no valid PR card: US...

Confused about the question : "Have you ever used any other name?" in citizenship application

If she uses the married name at all - yes. If she doesn't use it and has no IDs etc under the married name - no.

    Immigration and Citizenship status question

As a rough guideline, disclose any long-term status such as worker, student, permanent resident, or similar. Not sure? More than six months (possibly unless allowed as tourist), definitely more than a year - disclose. They gave you some non-visitor ID or paper? Disclose. So yes: in most...

If PRTD application under H&C considerations is rejected

The day you arrived in Canada - presumably you mean when you first landed - you were unquestionably in compliance with the residency obligation. Completely different situation. A PR who is non-compliant can be found to be inadmissible. It requires them making such a decision, but it is possible.

    March 2025 - Citizenship Applications

Spouse had the interview recently (online). Very low-impact, no issues, agent quite nice. Started with routine question about whether any criminal or immigration issues that would prevent citizenship (to which answer given was 'not that I know of' - how should one answer that? Probably with a...

If PRTD application under H&C considerations is rejected

There's a discussion somewhere about this - I once found same text about how R-1 means you're 'deemed' to have met the RO, or something like that. Feedback came back differently from other members, that it's ambiguous and doesn't automatically mean you can be assured you'll get PR card on...

    Spouse Sponsorship: Proof Of Communication

To orient you: download the checklist document with the application package. The checklist is the main document to orient you and define what you need. Read through that carefully - what it asks for specifically depends on your situation, that's the part you need to pay attention to and understand.

    December 2023 - Citizenship Applications

You keep asking this. There is no separate thread I'm aware of. Best would be to start a new thread. You ask this question without providing useful information about your case. All cases I've seen or heard of where the applicant has spent eg a year or more in the PNP province have had no...

    April 2025 - Citizenship Applications

It is usually a few days (say 1-7 days) before the tracker account can be created. You should get an invitation/info letter about the tracker (separate from AOR), which seems to come a bit after the tracker account can be created. So either wait or just try it once a day.
