    Even if the card has expired, she would still be allowed to enter Canada. Not having a valid card could be an issue for a commercial carrier, however.

    No. You only really `need' a valid PR Card to return to Canada via a commercial carrier (unless you hold a valid U.S. Passport). Your expired PR Card (or anything that CBSA can use to verify your PR status) is all you need to enter Canada.
