    October 2024 - Citizenship Applications

Congrats. Make a good scan of the hard copy certificate - because it has bar codes and all that, it basically also works as an e-certificate (at least for service canada/passport office, which is the main place you'd need it anyway). That way you can store the hard copy and keep it in good...

    Spousal

He can apply without resigning and work until end of his current work permit - and apply for open work permit (after getting AOR). When he gets the open work permit, he can keep working for the same company or change jobs at will.

Question about non-driver ID card: Which category to use when applying online?

I don't think it matters that much. Personally I'd use age of majority card, but driver's licence would probably work too.

    December 2024 - Citizenship Applications

You can try. Still within the normal processing timelines.

Inland Spousal Sponsorship: Job Change for Sponsor

No impact as long as not quebec on either. BUT: if you applied as inland, you need to both be residing together throughout the process (until you receive PR). So you should move together. Update address with IRCC and confirm once move complete.

Question about non-driver ID card: Which category to use when applying online?

If you mean provincial ID card, that is equivalent to driver's licence and used to be called age of majority card.

PRTD R-1 Granted on Successful H&C Grounds

Yes, you can work under a dormant SIN. You may not have access to the file and employer may get questions, but perfectly legal - it is (supposedly) mainly a check-identity flag and used to prevent fraud, eg someone claiming benefits under another's name.

    Non-Routine Application

Order gcms notes, try inquiring through MP as well. Long delays most of the time are some kind of security check backlog or issue.

    March 2025 - Citizenship Applications

After the interview, the tracker eventually updated to say physical presence is complete. So seems correct in this case the interview was bascially about physical presence.

Inland or Outland? Canadian sponsor, PA is on student visa and OWP

I don't know if I can get it exactly right. One I recall is for those out-of-status, there is a formal program from IRCC which basically allows them to stay / reduces risk of deportation order (I implore anyone in this situation to not rely upon my reference to it). There really are not that...

    March 2025 - Citizenship Applications

Thank you VERY much for this info. I've been saying for a while here that it seems to me everyone having 'problems' with only the vancouver office suggests it's a functional matter like this, i.e. they'd centralized something in Vancouver. And it makes sense it's background check +...

Received PFL for PRTD Application - Need assistance

I have nothing to add but would draw attention also to the consequences part (impacts on both the applicants and other Canadian residents, incl minors).

    January 2025 - Citizenship Applications

I don't want to put you on the spot to disclose your issue (it's your business) - but the bottom line could simply be that IRCC does not evaluate your request for urgent processing as something meeting their requirements to grant that urgent processing.

    January 2025 - Citizenship Applications

I see no particular evidence of this. What are you referring to? There are some complaints about the refugee, H&C, and PGP apps processing - and those are arguably reasonable complaints, but they're also choices by government. And there have always been complaints about different programs and...

Got an R-1 but have not met the 2 year residency requirement

I warn the caveats in the thread above, and it still may be worth consulting a lawyer, or waiting until you have good docs of being in Canada, etc. Because as has been pointed out - logically - what is written in the books and procedures is a decent starting point, but practice unfortunately...

Received PFL for PRTD Application - Need assistance

I will repeat what I frequently say: even arguments that people here consider 'weak' should be included, and statements such as 'won't be considered an H&C reason' I don't believe are correct (unless clearly unrelated or fatuous). Arguments are not considered alone, but overall, and must be...

Parents are Canadian PR, and the child was born in the US

    1. Basically yes. They will want to specify they will sponsor the child soon, or that a sponsorship is in progress. 2. They can't apply before one of them is already in Canada, they will need to do so, it's not hard, but will usually take 4-12 months. 3. Not an expert - check OHIP site. I...

Ontario Photo ID for Canadian Citizenship Application. Is that acceptable ?

Yes, it's the exact substitute for driver's license (it used to be known as the Age of Majority card, in Ontario at least). The entire purpose of the Ontario Photo ID Card (and equivalent in other provinces) is to serve as ID for those who do not have driver's licenses - and indeed in most...

    April 2025 - Citizenship Applications

I believe it's an automatic exemption. But if he's old enough, study with him - he'll probably know more of the stuff than you.
