I believe you do need to cover a 5-year period. However, I understood that if your only absence longer than 180 days was your country of origin then you didn't need to get one. Wonder why that is getting longer? We will probably never know but got excited to submit the application and then looked at the prior months applications and noticed this timeline getting longer too...- spc337
