Hello all,

I am planning to move to Canada from us after staying here for 5 years. I have a driving history for about 3 years now and I am worried if I would be considered a new driver with no history and my insurance rate will go up.

Did you someone do this? If so, how much are you paying for auto insurance.

You can carry over your driving history and insured history to Canada. Get a letter from dmv and the carrier, respectively. You can use the driving history to get a Canadian driving license.

US driving history is considered the same as Canadian history. So you will get same rates as someone with 3 yrs of Canadian history.

Auto insurance is a ripoff. They will ask for no claim certificate for all the years you claim the driving experience. Any company you ask, they will sing the same song.

I have more than 10 years of experience in driving but i dont have letters before 2014. So they gave me high rates. They just search for some reason to give high quote. Also some companies give you low rate and then every 3 months they are increasing for auto. And they increase every 6 months for renters insurance. As they bill high, they dont really care if we really switch from one insurance to another as they know that others too wont give it cheap rates.

Its a big scam and robbery with auto insurance.

In phoenix, i paid less than 1000USD/year.
In detroit, i paid 1200USD/year for same car. Its slight increase due to no fault insurance in this state.
In windsor, i pay 2400CAD/year for same car. After switching its now 2000CAD. I have 2 old cars and now paying 4k per year which is the worth of one of the cars.:(
