Hi all,

My mother's passport is expiring in December 2019 and she has a valid Canadian visa till the date of passport expiry. She is planning to visit me in Calgary (flying out on 22 May 2019 and returning back on 18 Sept 2019). I'm wondering if she is likely to face any hassle at the immigration due to the fact that her passport will have a validity of less than six months before the date of return?

Should she renew her passport and travel with visa on the old passport, or is the current passport good enough for this visit? Basically, is the six month passport validity applicable from the point of entry or exit from Canada?

Please advise. Thank you!

The length of her stay would be limited to the expiry of her passport

Point of Entry is Toronto via Air.
Yes, you asked if the six month validity was from point of entry or point of exit. It's from point of entry. If they will issue you a six month stay, your passport must be valid for at least six months from point of entry. Or they will only admit you for the length of your passport.

Yes, that's obviously true. Can she enter on Tourist visa though on such short passport validity? Usually, immigration requires six months passport validity to grant entry on Tourist visas.
The immigration officer will limit her stay to the expiry of her current passport. Best to get a new passport and travel with both passports
