Hi All,

I am staying in USA from Jan 2017. I have my car here in USA which is financed. I got my Canadian PR in June 2018 and I landed in June 2018 only. I have listed my car details on the goods to follow form at the time of landing on Canadian border. Now I have plans to permanently move to Canada in 1 month. I know that I have to pay off my car due and need a clean title with no liens. The title should be on my name. May I know the answers of below questions:

1) How long does it take to get the title in such cases ?
2) Is there any kind of fee which I need to pay on the border to move my car from USA to Canada as I am Canadian PR ?
3) I heard that we can move our own used car or household items without paying some kind of fee within 1 year if we are moving permanently to Canada?

4) Is there any kind of hidden cost or process before I go to the border ?

Your responses are highly appreciated

2. Around 350$ in RIV fees that you can pay upfront online. No fees need to be paid at border. No duty. No HST/GST.
3. As long as items are in goods to follow list, you can import them anytime. Even after 5 years.
4. Just note that few cars require some modifications before they can registered. Most common modification is Daylight Running Light which is required in Canada but not mandatory in US. Mine 2010 Honda Civic already had DRL but an acquaintance with 2-15 Camry had to get his DRL setup in Canada. Fees for this varies from $60 to couple hundred $$$

thank you so much for your reply. Can you please provide any thread or info on the process or steps for RIV fee payment ?
