Hello Everyone,

Good Evening. I have been working in Canada from past 1.8 years and I have received confirmation of PR (CoPR along with landing documents) three weeks ago but i am holding off my landing due to few concerns.

I am going to get marry in Jan 2018, and i was told it takes a year to get PR for spouse and at the same time, Canadian high commision rejects visitor visa to spouse when their PR is in progress.

I am worrying a lot as it's very difficult to stay away for a year :-( Could you please suggest the best possible way in this situation.

Appreciate your help very much. Thanks in advance.

Option 1:
Step 1: Apply for Visitor visa for your fiance (Before marriage).
Step 2: If you do landing before marriage, Process inland spousal sponsorship and work permit (May get work permit in around 3 months).

Option 2: If you have work permit for long time (beyond Marriage),
Don't do PR landing and while returning land on work permit.
Inform Ottawa/LVO about the martial status change and add spouse to the application.
You can come back with spouse if the persons Visitor visa approved.
This process may take another 2-4 months to get new COPRs.

Option 3: Do PR landing.
Apply for spousal sponsorship application (As you mentioned it may take 1 year.)

@jagan.chamarthi how did it go with you? I am in the exact same situation. Just change the year from 2017 to 2018.

I was thinking of option 2. But will CBSA at airport allow to enter based on a work permit and do landing later along with spouse? I have a worker visa till 2020.
Please advise.
@gowthamp

@scylla what do you suggest based on your experience

If you are returning before Work Permit expiry, you can do option 2.
Inform CIC after marriage, and your COPR becomes invalid.

If CBSA asks mention the same. I did the same.
