Landing Formalities

Hi,
It would be really great if anyone could help me answering these questions:
1. While going to Canada for the first time to complete the landing formalities, can we hire a car and go or it should be a private owned car?
2.Are the landing formalities done the same day or it can be postponed to the next day?

You will finish landing formalities at POE and once you become PR, CBSA won't allow you to take your private car inside Canada without exporting it from USA and importing it into Canada. So you have 2 options:

1. If you are traveling further inside Canada after finishing landing formalities then take rental car instead of your own private car. PR holders can drive US plated rental cars in Canada.

2. If you are making a U-turn and returning to USA after finishing landing formalities at CBSA office, then let CBSA agents know and they will waive off requirement to import your private car. I used this option during my soft landing.

Do we need to apply for SIN card? Or can it be done later on since we don't plan to move there right away.

It can be done later once you are ready to settle in Canada.
