Hello,

I was granted PR status years ago, but my passport was never returned to me. I've submitted multiple requests to IRCC but have received no response.

At this point, is it worth hiring a lawyer to try to get things moving? It's frustrating because everyone else I know has received their passports back, while I've been waiting for years and still don’t even know whether IRCC still has mine or if it was lost (like sending it to an old address or something)

Good-day , years ago ? how long ago are we talking about ? Are you a citizen now ? did it expire ? if "years ago" they don't return it if it expires while in their possession. But most important question were you granted PR after refugee protection/status ? Then it's not advisable to use your country's passport , I know a lot of people get away with it, and use them anyways but in hind sight , you are saying you don't need the Canadian Travel Document because you feel "safe" using your country (country of persecution) passport. Again people sometimes do it but ...... it's your call ; Only after citizenship do all the restrictions go away , and then you can do and travel wherever you want.

more than 5 years. passport expired. I want it back because this is a normal procedure, not to use it

sorry what do you mean they don't return expired passports?
Good day , IRCC can return an expired (or about-to-expire) passport in "certain cases" (please note CERTAIN CASES) including for refugee claimants, but it is not automatic and depends on your situation, but since it expired 5 yrs ago as you said , I bet they sent it to your former address when it was about to expire , chances are they don't have it , sent it, or destroyed it , they've a tonne of passports in their inventory that go unclaimed etc but you maybe lucky and they may have it after this long usually they send them out when requested and about to expire that's their official policy on website but it doesn't hurt to try your luck contacting them again , great day
