Hello Everyone,

I was brought to the United States when I was 12 with my parents in 2018 and they applied for asylum in 2019. We had an interview in 2021 that was later referred to court and was due to happen in 2027. Around 3 months ago, my father was detained by ICE and was told that they wanted to expedite his case leading to our cases being separated and my mother having another case open separately adding me as a derivative. My father's case was later denied and now awaiting removal to Lebanon, though, we will exhaust one last appeal. I am about to graduate and my intentions were to complete a masters degree here in the US while all of this was going on but due to these circumstances, I am afraid I won't be able to. My mother and sister are planning to self-deport and take a clean exit to close the asylum case by the end of the year which wouldn't allow me to stay and complete my studies.

Now I am trying to figure out if it is plausible to apply for study visa and finish my master's in Canada and try to gain some experience that isn't available in my country. My intent to just finish my studies and depart as I am not trying to get stuck again just like the way my parents were.

It's a really frustrating situation and I am afraid this will affect my future forever.

You can apply with your valid passport, LOA, funds but you will have to declare your asylum claim in the US.

You cannot finish your Masters in Canada. You would be starting a new program. What school do you want to attend because Fall 2026 admissions is probably not possible.

I’m not yet in a masters as i’m about to graduate with my bachelors in december. I also have an internship to complete in the summer at a good sized company as a network engineer. I was planning on doing IT Security master’s at concordia university and join the co-op program as it has some valuable experience. I am also exploring other universities, but i’m mainly looking for reputable ones. I am just trying to get some advice if I should go ahead and try for a visa or if I should not risk it

edit: Sorry I forgot to mention I wanted to either do winter or fall of next year

You can apply get admissions with CSQ and apply for a study permits. Not sure your cash balance but you need money in the bank. You have to justify costs with return on investment when you return to home country. That is your biggest obstacle since you claimed asylum so you need to show that the career opportunities and higher pay then you would make with your degree.
