Hi everyone,

I have a quick question regarding selection of CELPIP options in PR application. PR application in GC Key shows 2 options: CELPIP-G and CELPIP General 2014. I selected CELPIP-G in my application and after submission, I heard mixed answers on this selection. Some said I had to choose CELPIP General 2014 and CELPIP-G is the wrong option. I passed language test in Aug 2023. Did I select the incorrect option? If yes, would it affect my application? And to avoid any confusion at a later date, would sending clarification to IRCC via webform suffice?

Really appreciate the guidance in advance!

Thank you so much for a quick response @CanGoldDigger

Had you also selected CELPIP-G and your application was approved based on that selection? Also, just curious to know if you mean CELPIP-G is the right option or its not but ok even if that was selected?

The confusion usually comes from the fact that the test was rebranded years ago.

For your Express Entry profile, you should select CELPIP-G.

Even though your recent test results might say "CELPIP-General" or mention the 2014 version, IRCC’s system still uses CELPIP-G as the standard identifier for the 4-skill test (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking) required for Permanent Residency.

Just a few tips for those currently filling out the profile:

  • Make sure you are NOT selecting CELPIP-LS. That is the "Listening and Speaking" only version, which is for Citizenship, not PR.
  • The "General 2014" label was just a way to distinguish the updated computer-based format introduced back then; for 2026 applications, it is the only version of the "General" test available.
  • Ensure your Registration Number and PIN are entered exactly as they appear on your official score report to avoid issues during the electronic verification.
Good luck with the application! Getting the language points is the best way to boost your CRS score.
