Hi all,

I was hoping I could get some guidance before going ahead with a work permit extension application.

I followed the OINP - PNP Non express PR path and after receiving the invitation on March 2025, my wife and I applied to PR through Non express entry - PNP on June 23rd. (We had 6 months to apply).

Currently, both my wife and I have a valid open work permit until March 6th, 2026 but with the invitation I received in March, I also received an invitation letter with a validity of 6 months (until Sep 13th) that allows us to extend my work permit for 2 years, with myself as a main applicant with a Closed work permit and my wife with an Open work permit.

Thankfully, my employer has already agreed to continue with the process and pay for the fee expense that is needed.

Considering that the Non express entry - PR - PNP process takes approximately 20 months to complete and our Open work permits will probably expire by that time, our main question would be if there would be any issues for us to ask for the Closed Work Permit now, even though we have like 6 months in our current permits?

Hey, how did it go? I am now in the same boat. My PGWP will expire on March 2026 as well

Hey, in the end I applied for the work permit extension with the letter I got from my PR PNP invite. I did it within the 6 months but I haven't received a response yet so I'll probably will be in mainteined status until they respond.

I did get a provisional letter of extension for a few months until September.
