Single sponsor, Canadian citizen - sponsoring both my mom and dad (both Indian citizens)

ITA - Aug 1, 2025
Application submitted - Aug 26, 2025
Additional Documents Requested - Oct 10, 2025 (they needed proof of relationship between me (sponsor) and my parents and also proof of relationship between my mom (principal applicant) and my dad (dependent). They also requested for current passports that have at least 12 months validity as both my parent's passports were expiring end of this year)
Additional Documents Submitted - Oct 18, 2025 (submitted through email method instead of using the webform and received the automatic reply from that email instantly)

Hi all - I too applied for my parents and got request for additional documents on Sep 29 with an option to submit everything via email within 30 calendar days. Basically, I goofed up ..I created 2 separate accounts on PR application portal - one for my dad and one for my mom so I guess IRCC got confused who's the principal applicant and who's the dependent.

They asked for proof of relationship between sponsor and principal applicant and also proof of relationship between parents, my parents CV, voterID and past school records. I had submitted everything for them in initial application but I guess the 2 separate portal accounts confused the heck out of them! I had no idea I was to have a single online account for both mom & dad.

My parents VoterID has mistakes and I guess I also need to include written explanation about that ..FML :(
Hi Dun,

Did they specifically ask for a marriage certificate? If you didn’t have one, did you just provide their Aadhaar card and voter ID instead?

I’ve also received an email requesting additional information — they’re asking for a Marriage Certificate or a Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union. My parents don’t have their marriage certificate since it’s been nearly 50 years and they’ve lost it.
Any information or advice on how you handled this would be really helpful.

Thanks,

Make Letter of explanation that they don't have those document. Send all the documents that has both of their names on it.

I had submitted a marriage certificate with my initial application already (although this was hand written and quite poorly legible) and that's why my letter for additional documents didn't ask for marriage certificate again but instead for other things that can show relationship like voter ID, ration card, etc

If you don't have any other documents that can prove that relationship may be you can attach a letter of explanation and also provide all Indian passports (expired and cancelled ones too) as the passports should show spouse name.. so your dad's passport should have your mom's name and your mom's passport should have your dad's name.

Is there any way your parent's can request for a new copy of marriage certificate? They might have to ask their city department (or the relevant organization) to see if a copy could be provided based on old records
