Hello team,

Hello team,

Thank you,

Is your husband actively studying his masters full-time and how long does he have left in his studies? How long is left on his study permit?

Yes, he started in sep 2025 and that will be for 2y.

Study permit will be ended by Dec 2026, and there will be an expected extension till 2027.

So program is a two year, full time program? But is he actively studying full time? What type of support for medical condition? So he is in a two year program and didn't get permit for length or program? You apply based on your funds ($27k or whatever it is plus tuition) and ties to return. Medical condition may impact application if he isn't going to be studying.

But is he actively studying full time?yes
So he is in a two year program and didn't get permit for length or program? He received 2y and 6 months but he did deferral for 1y.

What type of support for medical condition?
Medical condition may impact application if he isn't going to be studying.

after chemotherapy, the medical situation is stable now, but he needs mental health support and during the checkup, he needs a companian.

So apply for SOWP with proof of funds and ties to return. Not sure why you didn't apply at the same time if he was taking a masters program.

The length of his study permit maybe the issue. You really should have applied for the SOWP at the same time as his study permit or at least 6 months ago when it appeared he’d be able to start in September. Not sure I would mention the medical issue. If his mental health is so severe he should have never come to Canada alone and there could be concerns about him being able to study successfully. If being able to attend scans/montioring appts were so important why did he come to Canada without seeing if you could secure an SOWP. You hadn’t even applied for one. I see minimal upside to mentioning this. Did his medical contain his cancer diagnosis? If not sure you want to draw attention to his change in medical history. Assume he has read the fine print if he has an international student medical plan versus provincial healthcare.

Actually, his condition has been stable for seven years, and even at the time of applying for the study permit everything was stable. We didn’t hide anything. But just before traveling, he was in the hospital doing his routine checkups, and there was a suspicion of relapse. Thankfully, the tests came back clear, but the doctor insisted he should do follow-ups every 6–12 months. He also stressed that he should follow a special diet, which would be impossible without me there to make sure he gets what he needs. On top of that, his checkups are exhausting and he needs someone to accompany him.

He still has 14 months left on his study permit, and he’s eligible for an extension since his program will take at least 2–2.5 years.

I don’t really understand why the length of his study permit would be considered an issue.
