Hello everyone,

I am planning to apply Visitor visa for my Mother-in-law as we are planning to bring her and stay with us in Canada for my wife's childbirth. I was confused with what to select from the below options. This is as per IRCC portal.

I am Mainly confused with these 2 options as to which one to select :-

Why do you need a visa? (required)
To provide care for a loved one who needs medical support.
OR
To visit my family

The closest and best option in my opinion is "To provide care for a loved one who needs medical support" But I am still not very sure about it.
Can someone please help me with the best answer?

I have also attached the image link below for all the options as per the portal can someone please guide me?

Thanks in advance.

Depends on your status.

Hi all,

I do have a similar question. We are applying for a Visitor visa mother-in-law as we are planning to bring her and stay with us in Canada for my wife's childbirth. I hold a student visa, and my wife holds a work open work permit. and we are stuck on "Why do you need a visa? (required)", I tried option 10. But it seems like this option is not permitted to continue unless I select a different option. Please advise, I am confused on which option suits our situation.

Because the host is a student visa & permit holder. Perhaps 12 is more appropriate.

Your MIL does not meet the criteria you selected because she is wanting to visit her child. You have to be visiting your spouse, common-law partner, parent, etc. to select #10. Would be very careful about how you describe the purpose of the visit. Meeting grandchild should be the reason I mention of helping care for the mom or baby. That can be considered work. I would also be careful how long a visit you ask for depending on the mother’s previous international travel history, her funds, ties to her home country, etc.

“10. To visit my spouse, common law partner, dependent child, parent, step-parent, guardian or tutor who is in Canada temporarily, such as an international student or temporary worker”
