Remote Job Offer from Quebec-Based Company

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone here has experience or insights on this. I’ve received (or am in the process of securing) a remote job offer from a company that’s headquartered in Quebec, but I will be living and working full time from another province, specifically Saskatchewan.

I’m applying for permanent residence under the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP), which requires that applicants intend to reside outside Quebec. The official IRCC guidelines only say the applicant must “intend to reside in a province or territory other than Quebec.

My questions:

1. Has anyone successfully applied for PR (via Express Entry or EMPP) in a similar situation, working remotely for a Quebec-based company but living in another province?

• Did IRCC question your intent to reside outside Quebec just because the employer is located there?
• What kind of documentation did you include to prove your work location and intent to reside outside Quebec?

Any advice or firsthand experience would be greatly appreciated. I want to make sure I’m setting things up correctly to avoid delays or issues during processing.

Do you ever have to go into the office? If you are on a WP you may not qualify for things like healthcare in SK if your employer is in QC. This is a risky but will be up to the VO officer. Is there a reason you must live in SK?

I’m outside of Canada applying for EMPP with job offer pathway. The job is completely remote and SK is one of the provinces you can work from home.

Can you get a letter from the company that specially states that you will be working remotely from Sask? Can you show other ties to Sask? I think it would be ideally to provide these things as evidence.

Not sure how you can actually show that you will move to SK or why you settle in SK. Your only tie to Canada is in Quebec. The other issue is there may be no need to actually be in Canada if 100% remote.

No other ties but I can get the letter.

That makes no sense if the posting was to hire a Canadian employee.

You are asking about Express Entry and EMPP which are very different programs. For EMPP, your employer should be working with one of the partner organizations, and they help you settle in Quebec. They don't need you to come to Canada if you are just going to be a remote worker and not live in Quebec. If no intention to settle in Quebec then focus on the non job offer stream. Your employer needs to know about the job offer stream and their responsibilities. Assume they are well versed in the EMPP program and willing to help you settle.
