Hi everyone!

Do anyone have an idea about RTD, I applied since February 7 2025 by mail, but until today we are already in June, still I didn’t received the document, I can’t reach IRCC by the phone and there’s no way to check the application online.

Anyone with information?

Thank you.

Why cant you reach them by phone? I've called them twice, first time they said it was being processed and marked as urgent, second time they told "it was shipped yesterday, here's your tracking number" - but this happened in march for me.
Was your form all complete with acessible guarantor?

Yes, everything was correct, and if anything went wrong they should be telling me.
Do you know when to call them? Cause every time I call, they don’t pick up the phone. Never did

Call them at 8am. Choose the options correctly and they will pickup.

Why Is It Taking So Long?

  1. Paper-based delays: Mailed applications often take longer to be opened, scanned, and entered into the system.
  2. Backlog & staffing issues: IRCC is still recovering from post-pandemic and 2023 backlog delays.
  3. No online tracking: Unlike PR or citizenship files, RTDs cannot be tracked online, and they are not connected to your IRCC portal account.
  4. Limited communication: IRCC rarely gives status updates unless something is missing or incorrect.
What Can You Do Now?

1. Submit a case-specific inquiry through the official IRCC Web Form:

  • Select "Temporary residence documents" → "Refugee Travel Document (RTD)"
  • Explain your situation: that it's been over 4 months with no update, and you are unable to travel or make essential plans.
  • Attach proof of submission (e.g., Canada Post tracking, scanned copy of your application).
2. Since this delay is now impacting your life, your local Member of Parliament (MP) can intervene:
  • Call or email the MP for your riding.
  • Ask them to submit an IRCC status request on your behalf.
  • This is often the fastest way to get a response when IRCC won't answer individuals directly.

Hi, how did you make your case "urgent" by calling IRCC? You just explain your situation and they marked your case as "urgent"?
I sent my documents last week, and need "urgent" processing, but I don't know how to do this. Thank you in advance for your answer
