Hello,

I have a question about language proficiency for citizenship.

I completed the Business Administration Diploma with Co-op program at ILAC International College, a private college in Canada. For citizenship applications, we are required to provide proof of English language proficiency. Does a post-secondary diploma obtained from a private college also qualify as valid proof of English language proficiency for the citizenship application ?

I did some research and found informations from government website on the below. It doesn’t mention the any difference between private and public.

My understanding is there is no difference. Note that the diploma doesn't even need to be earned from inside of Canada, if they'll accept something from outside of Canada I don't see why they'd refuse it from inside of Canada while it's private. The main thing is that the college should be accredited (which appears to be the case for ILAC as per https://ilac.com/accreditations/ ) and the diploma should truly be at the appropriate post-secondary level.

You can try to submit the diploma and transcripts to WES - https://www.wes.org/ - if there's issues with accreditation or if the diploma was somehow below standard, the WES report would point these out. While WES technically isn't a guarantee, most likely if WES gives a favourable report then the diploma would count as language proof.
