Hello,
Hope everyone is doing well!

My wife has got her approval for student visa for centennial college for the may intake.
MY questions are as follows!

1. I have a visit visa, so can i travel with her as iam keen on applying for the open work permit from within canada itself.
2. Should she leave immediately considering the fact that the govt has already announced closing of spousal work permits soon for programs others than masters( shes not doing doing masters)
3. Can she take a connecting flight from saudi and stay in saudi arabia to visit her family for a few days and then travel from saudi to canada?

Thank you so much!

1. You can travel with her. By May, spouses will not be eligible for SOWP. You should be applying for SOWP showing funds of $26k (funds required for 2 people) now and see what happens.
2. No. She may be denied entry because coming so early. Her permit is approved and nothing to do with SOWP.
3. She can do whatever she wants.

Can i apply for the sowp now ? As we have just got the intimation to send her passport to the embassy now in India. I thought that she needs to enter canada and get her student visa approved and only then i can apply for sowp.

Have they already stopped the sowp ?

You should have applied at the same time as her study permit. Now with spouses not being eligible, you may have waited too late. All you can do is apply now and see what happens.

You need to show funds and ties to return.

The government announced a month ago that spouse will not longer be eligible. Announcement said that rules would be released within a few weeks. Internally, IRCC staff may have already implemented it. Waiting for OP to come as a visitor in May and then apply will most likely be too late. OP needs to apply now and see what happens. SOWPs are not guaranteed so want to meet new SP proof of fund guidelines.

Do you have an approved study permit?

Yeah. I'm here on study permit. I just applied for extension for my second course, and with it a sowp for my spouse who is in my home country. It's a wait and see situation as you've mentioned. I can only hope for the best
