Hi,

Creating this thread for TN visa related questions.

Has anyone got TN visa based on job offer and moved to US after they acquired canadian citizenship. I am indian origin and acquired Canadian citizenship recently.

I have heard that for Naturalized Canadian, CBP officers give hard time for TN approval.

Hi,

I have 2 friends who left to the USA 1 month after they received their passport and they got the TN visa at the border. It's a stamp on the passport and usually valid for 3 years if I remember correctly and easy to renew.

You just have to show the officer your job offer. And no officer has the right to give you any hard time. You are free to do whatever you want.

The recruitment companies in US can help get the interviews and offer. However, no one except Immigration lawyer can guide you the entire TN process. I am first looking for job offers through recruiters and then i will possibly hire lawyer to get me TN.

Hmm I don't want to sound like an expert, but so far everyone who received TN visa told me it's a straight forward easy process.

Get a job offer and go to the border, a quick interview with officer and you are good to go with a TN visa stamp.

No one required a lawyer or agency for the process or anything.

When you receive a TN status, you are admitted to the United States with that lawful status. If you're driving, no one will stop you from turning back around and heading to Canada. I've done that, though it was a long time ago. I don't see why this would have changed. Once you get the status, you're free to leave the border area and into the US. Shortly after, you can come back to Canada. CBSA might ask about your short trip and the US will know that you left, but you're not doing anything illegal, so all good. Back when I did this, I grabbed lunch, filled up the car and headed back north. I flew down the following week. No issues.

Are you in IT? The process is straight forward but it is difficult to find employer who will be willing to hire once you tell them you are in Canada and need support letter for TN

An update about my comment.
The people I referred to are software engineers.

I heard 2 days ago that for few occupations a TN visa gets hard to get and sometimes officers can delay things like Aerospace industry. Again, this is something I heard, not sure of.

I have a BEng from UK and a MASc. from Canada.
If the job offer is for an engineering role, should the BEng degree from UK be evaluated? Considering a higher degree (MASc.) is from North America.

Any thoughts?

Hello. I am Canadian, and I got an employment to design advanced math classes for an honors program. Hence, I am applying for a TN visa. My employer and school gave me the letter I wanted to ask: should I ask them to adjust anything or does it look okay?

This letter is written on behalf of name. As the mathematician at School, Mr. name will assist us in constructing materials as well as exams in advanced mathematics and science for our new honors program. He will also design competitive-level mathematics projects and advanced science projects for the school. I am submitting this letter of support to assist name, a Canadian citizen, in obtaining a TN visa (under the mathematician occupational category) to work for school in the United States. The professional position of mathematician is listed in Appendix 1603.D.1 of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The necessary credentials, as outlined in NAFTA, are bachelor of science honors with a major in mathematics and a master of science in mathematics.
