we received the letter telling us we had first stage approval in june 2009 and then another letter nov 2009 telling us we had an interview scheduled for jan 2010

why not have your girlfriend sponsor you over via family-class out of country common-law? while the application is being processes you can still come over to canada and stay with her since you have a uk passport. out of country vs in country is much faster.
