You can technically but this could as well be counted as a mis-representation. I was in my home country and got stuck here for more than 6 months so it was good for me. Later though my SDS application was denied on other grounds.

Not that it affected me in any negative way but I can imagine someone very junior and right off the school will take it very personally and get demoralized quickly.

they did not extend before 6 months , they now do not a permit you to come so guess whose money got wasted here. I know this is unprecedented but so should this visa expiration of millions of visitors issue be looked at with a "unprecedented" view / lens
