I will highly advise to use the 'real' calculator by CIC to see if you are eligible or not. It doesn't really take a lot of time and this is something you will need to do either way if you are planning to apply. Enter all information, including absences, in the calculator and see what the last...

Unless I'm mistaken, don't you have to attach the additional form if you select YES to this question? I'd say confirm if you should do both - add the additional filled out form and the explanation letter. This would be the 'safest option'.

This is why it is a confusing question. Technically you were 'living / residing' outside of Canada during that time i.e. you had your residential address not in Canada. I'm more focused on the word 'reside' here.. maybe other seniors can shed more light on your situation.

Does not matter if you select Yes or No. This is an optional question and the choice here has no impact to your application - it will actually become effective if you are granted citizenship. If you read the description right below the question, you will see what I'm talking about.
