I am an asylum seeker, and I had an admissibility hearing. Ask me anything.

I arrived in 2016, and presented my asylum claim in January 2018. CBSA reported me for an admissibility hearing for serious criminality, and I was arrested. I was released on bail in March. It took CBSA three and a half years to put their disclosure together, and finally reveal what bothered...

    CBSA examination

Always have a good lawyer for such situations! And just because you think your lawyer is good... he may not be at all! Most lawyers aren't very good.

    Ministers intervention

Yes, this must be the reason. Well, this might be difficult to overcome. You will need something to prove you are who you say you are.

    Decision letter

Why don't you ask your lawyer to scan the letter and send it over in email?

Asylum seekers awaiting eligibility interview; any update?

I submitted my initial application in Mississauga in January 2018. My eligibility hearing was three weeks later.

    Ministers intervention

Of course we can't tell why exactly this is happening, as we aren't familiar with your case or your circumstances. A minister's intervention means that the government has concerns about the validity or admissibility of your asylum claim and will argue that you should be rejected. This can happen...

Apply for a closed work permit as a refugee claimant

Why would you need a restricted work permit instead of an open one? You're downgrading your possibilities while not getting any advantage.

Has anyone tried going to "CIC office Refugee Processing" to request copy of their passport?

Yes, I did try to ask for a copy. I've been told that the copy they gave me when they seized it is good enough, it's a certified copy, so I can use it for identification. They didn't give me a new one. Actually I'm pretty sure they lost my passport.

Can Protected person go back home country?

As a matter of fact you can go back... as long as IRB never finds it out. It's up to you to take the risk. They will automatically revoke your protected status if they receive information that you went back.

Any one hear from refugee board for hearing date or document request?

Anyone waiting for an admissibility hearing? My claim has been suspended for 3 years now, and no word about the hearing.

    Hearing date

It's an exact date. You're going to receive something like a court subpoena. It is possible to call them and request another date, but within sensible limits, of course.

IRCC Intervention - Not That Serious?

My two cents about that "get a lawyer" thing: be careful who you choose, most are plain scammers. If your case is not an open-and-shut one, they're often just pumping your wallet and don't offer any help. My advice is to avoid those who sit in fancy downtown offices, have shiny name tags and...

Anyone here from 2017 / 2018 Still waiting for Hearing

Hmm, good to know the hearings are resumed. Maybe our endless waiting has an end after all. I arrived in the last days of 2016, but only applied in January 2018 so that's when the clock starts for me. I'm actually waiting for an admissibility procedure for suspected criminal inadmissibility...

    Admissibility hearing chances

January 2021. Still no sign of that disclosure.

    Minister’s Intervention

I'm in a similar situation. An admissibility procedure was started back in January 2018. Ever since then I've been waiting for their disclosure.
