No you don't have to leave, after the first six months you can apply for a visitor extension.

At this stage I don't think you would have enough evidence to prove a relationship. You could not really put down as common law at the moment because you need to provide evidence like joint bank statements etc. and the same appears to be the case for conjugal - you might find this useful...

That's correct, as long as you maintain legal status in Canada, they will not ask you to leave. Being from the UK helps as you don't need a Visa as such, but you will have to apply for a visitor extension once the stamp in your passport expires. The link you have there is a great place to start...
