Just one correction. there is no maximum allowable amount in Canadian port of entry. But, if it is more than 10,000CAD, then you have to declare it on the immigration form. That's all. They will not ask for any receipts, bank statements etc. I am telling this from my personal experience.

Go for the G1 Driver's License. After passing the written exam (which is pretty simple), you will get the license within 2 weeks. The cost is around 150$, so far i remember. And, it also includes the cost for road test. Thanks Debashish
