Returning to Canada with household goods, 11 months abroad

Thanks mad_hatter. I was able to get through to an agent, and they've confirmed your take. If we don't have the documentation, then we pay duties & taxes (after an $800 exemption). Regards

Returning to Canada with household goods, 11 months abroad

Hi all, My spouse (Canadian PR), 2 daughters (Canadian citizens), and myself (Canadian citizen) moved to Mexico last year. It has not worked well for any of them, so they are returning to Canada. It will have been 11 months of Mexican residency for them. I will be remaining a Mexican resident...

US citizen PR / Canadian citizen cross-border

That's what I was thinking, yes — accompanying Canadian spouse. Ok, I follow your reasoning. Thank you for the responses!

US citizen PR / Canadian citizen cross-border

Greetings all, My spouse is a US citizen, permanent resident of Canada. I'm a Canadian citizen. For a variety of reasons (it's complex), we are considering living on both sides of the border — myself in Canada and my spouse in the US, with regular cross-over (most frequently me visiting the...

    New forms??

We're just about to send in our Inland application & see that there are new forms coming out on Dec. 15th. Should we wait and fill out the new forms, or would it make no difference to submit the current forms? Thank you

    Spousal sponsorship dependent children photos

Hi all, Quick question here. We're applying Inland, myself and my 2 daughters are already citizens. The doc checklist requests 2 official photos of the applicant (my spouse) & any of her dependent children in Canada. As my 2 daughters are already in Canada and are citizens (both under 18), do...

    Spouse restoration of status delay

Thanks everyone. Profiler, We have in mind to apply Inland, even though we know it takes longer. We did not know about being able to indicate/apply for ROS at the same time. In our case, you're saying that we can apply Inland now while our previously requested ROS is still underway? Once we...

    Spouse restoration of status delay

Hi all, Back in June my spouse sent in the paperwork for a restoration of status, asking her visitor's visa to be extended until mid-December. We thought this was plenty of time to receive a response & get our next round of paperwork (spousal sponsorship PR app) out under confirmed "OK" status...

    Classes while visitor status?

Hi all, Which institutions is it legal to study at while under a visitor's visa? Language classes? Schools which are not Designated Learning Institutions? There is a school in Canada which I study at from California (most students take the classes from outside of Canada). It's not a DLI; is...

    Visitors Visa / missing document

Yikes, we just double checked and found we're a couple weeks past her 6-month reentry. Can we still reapply from within the country? Thank you!

    Visitors Visa / missing document

Hi everyone, a couple quick questions. My U.S.-citizen spouse is coming up on 6 months in Canada on a visitor's visa. She came across, received no stamp in her passport or anything about length of stay. We're assuming it defaults to 6 months. In this case, to what degree is her entry recorded...

Ch. 13 Bankruptcy in the U.S.

The irony here turns out to be the fact that the Spousal Sponsorship prerequisites for Canada proper defer to the Québec prereqs... and for Québec there is no question about bankruptcy one way or another.

Ch. 13 Bankruptcy in the U.S.

Hi Rob, Very interesting point. I'd be very interested to hear if anyone has experience with this question with a bankruptcy in a different country than Canada. Many thanks!

Ch. 13 Bankruptcy in the U.S.

Hi all, I'm a dual Canadian-US citizen who has moved back to Canada (Quebec) after many years in the states. I wish to sponsor my wife to become a PR, but 1 issue which stands out is our Chapter 13 bankruptcy from the U.S. This is a fairly technical issue, and I will be consulting an attorney...
