You can renew your wp while waiting for a hearing And its free for refugee claimants. due to the long processing times these days would recommend doing it 2-3 months before the current one expires .

Some of us have been there at some point and get how it feels!! If you could talk to your counsel an get his opinion on how it went and why the extra submissions it could give you some peace of mind!! Best of luck!
you should not be asked for criminal record while extending your work permit as a protected person. You wont be able to submit your application if all required documents are not attached.
