You should include an explanation letter highlighting that you are applying for a BOWP, even if you plan to continue working for the same employer and check that box on the form.

I applied by mail, without AOR, but with an explanation letter, proof of my mailing of my CEC application, and a copy of my CEC application. The package was received in Vegreville on July 2. My work permit (IEC) expired on July 8. I received AOR July 14. I received my work permit September 3...

Hopefully you will get your AOR with no problems. If not, get another CEC application in immediately and then apply for the BOWP (preferably by mail to buy more time - processing times are longer) and as long as both are sent before your current work permit expires you should be OK anyway...

No update yet - I applied by mail to buy myself some additional time in case things don't go as planned. I'm expecting to get my decision sometime in early September.

This is incorrect. I am currently working under Implied Status as I have applied for a BOWP and my IEC work permit has expired. My BOWP application was managed by an immigration lawyer.

Well I was issued AOR last time I applied with the same personal history so hopefully it'll be alright. If they send the AOR am I good or will they potentially request further information or even reject my application?
