Thanks for your advice. We absolutely would have changed our plans but he needs to be there for a job interview and we have a wedding there the following day so we'll just have to cross our fingers and hope it all works out ok!

Yes, you still need an ESTA until you become a Canadian citizen. You also need to make sure you travel with your PR card each time (my hubby has been to the US 6 times with work and twice on vacation and we joked on our latest trip that he needn't bring it because no-one has ever asked for...

My husband didn't have the paper part of his licence so our local registry asked for something from the DVLA. He got it and was given a full licence without a problem, he did have his UK card version though (not that it gives much info on it!)
