    Left behind???

The two folks I spoke to were the tax specialists at their respective firms. I hope they know about it with 20+ years of doing just Canada/US tax stuff... As they both explained to me, the biggest driver of the residency for tax purpose is, "Where's your spouse?". They dont want a guy commuting...

    Left behind???

Spoke to a few Canada/US tax specialists today and according to them, it'll be a very hard to attain non-resident tax status to have my PR spouse in Canada and while I work in US. Having tax obligations in the both Canada and US is making the job offer less attractive on a financial basis...

    Left behind???

Hi Leon, That's what we though, too. It'll make the decision even harder. If the PR is left behind in Canada and the Citizen goes to work in the USA, that would also attract tax obligations to both the CRA and IRS. That would effectively negate any tax benefits of being non-residents to the...

    Left behind???

Hi Leon, Thanks that. That's what we also thought. How or would the proposed Bill C-6 change that? Did previous rules allow for application of citizenship from abroad? Thanks

    Left behind???

Hi folks, Here's the situation. One of us is a Canadian citizen and the other half is a PR. We fully intend to convert from PR to citizenship, but here's the problem. The Canadian is offered a job in the USA. Does the PR stay back in Canada? I understand that the PR can maintain the residency...

    Outland / Inland

Go Outland and don't wait till you're married to send off the application. :) As long as you're legal in Canada, it's normal to have the same address. For us, we only used our Canadian address.

    Common Law Sponsorship in QC

It seems like the fastest way for US citizens is an Outland application, same thing for Aussies. Not sure why anybody would apply Inland. We applied Outland for my wife and only used our Quebec postal address. Then again, she was on a work visit so it was kinda expected for her to have a Quebec...

While you wait for CIC's reply, you might as well complete the MIDI papers so that they'll be ready to be posted.

Thread For applications Through SYDNEY (AUSTRALIA) Office

The timeline was reasonable a year ago. :) The 14 month average is just an average; so applications are processed much faster (luckily) and some take much longer (unfortunately).

So, Canada Post may have lost my package to Missiassauga

Once you submit these two forms, the hardest part is next. Radio silence for god knows how long especially when you pay and do police and medical checks upfront...

http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/EN/forms/search-title/undertaking-application/index.html I'm guessing you'll be Kit A? Click on the link and you'll have to d/l all the PDFs.. The only new document you'll need to provide is a copy of the letter that CIC will send you soon to proceed...

    American spouses FATCA

Even more reason to have it repealed! If doesn't affect the vast majority of Americans and only makes life more difficult for the few. What's that famous saying? No taxation without representation? :)

    September 2014 OUTLAND Applications

Re: Canada Post Horror Story Agree... It went well for us when we used Canada Post last year. Wow... Time flies... Some time last year I was compiling the application... Seems like last month... :)

    American spouses FATCA

With the volume of applications from the US, I wonder if all the couples are aware of their new-found tax obligations...:/ It's probably not high on their list of priorities during the immigration process, but it's good to know what's around the corner. :) Nwz... Here's another petition by...
