When I try to link the PR Card renewal to the CIC account, it only finds the original application from 2015 (and has that linked). Is that normal? Do I have to keep trying to search for the new application or does it appears under the original one or something.

I really can't disagree more. My spouse can't fly out of Canada and then back without the PR card. So it is required. You claim the PRTD is an alternative, but the processing time is unknown before leaving and so is the end result of application. It's a ridiculous equivalence and you know it...

I tend to agree with this. My spouse is actually the PR, while I'm a citizen. If this actually remains at 300 days I think I'm going to launch a Human Rights tribunal case against the CIC. The PR card is required to travel, and freedom of travel is a constitutional right of all Canadians...

That is possible. The other alternative is to apply again but with urgent (and a copy of the plane ticket) once everything starts up again.

Yes, but for 6-12 months (if the current backlog remains after COVID for a period of time) you essentially can't travel. Even if you applied exactly 6 months before expiration, often they won't let you travel if your card expires within 2 months. So at the moment I feel like I might just leave...
