Applying for SIN online after landing

Ok then you have not landed yet. I'm sure this has been answered already as applying at the airport was the standard way.

Applying for SIN online after landing

Hi, there is no SIN card, it's just a letter with your SIN printed on it. Normally you don't need to do it online, there should be at least one Office Canada opened you can visit and get the SIN in less than 30min and they won't ask you for a proof of address. No appointment needed.

PR card - March 2020 processing time

Me and my wife received hours PR card today (landing on May 15th). What surprises me is the expiry date: August 15th (2025).... I was expecting it to be May 15th 2025.

Applying for SIN online after landing

A Canadian officer called my wife this morning and she told her to ignore the online process she initiated and get a SIN directly at one of their office that are now operating. No appointment needed.

"Your SIN is necessary to get a SIM Card" Not at all. Don't ever give that number to phone/internet providers. "Your SIN is necessary to open a bank account" Nope. They just might require it later if you need a credit card. "You can get your SIN at the airport" ... In normal conditions yes but...

It's quite weird, I received my SIN number in 10 business days or so (applied end of May) but my wife is still waiting for it (applied end of June). Is anybody else having the same issue?

Applying for SIN online after landing

Yes in normal times one could get a SIN at the airport right after landing but with COVID-19 you can only apply online or in some cases via the post.

No you don't need a SIN to start a job. I worked 4 weeks without a SIN. No issue, I received my first payslip. But once you receive your SIN, you need to communicate it to your employer ASAP (within 3 days).

This AOF letter should work providing your address is also printed on it.

Applying for SIN online after landing

Just to tell people here that I sent the online application for a SIN on May 28th and received it today (so almost 2 weeks). I used my employment letter as proof of address. As a side note, beware of scams: I received a call and it was an prerecorded male voice saying they found the supporting...

You may try their minimum chequing account for instance ($3.95/month): https://www.td.com/ca/en/personal-banking/products/bank-accounts/chequing-accounts/ The letter might take between 5 and 10 business days to arrive though and you need a Canadian phone number (I used Public Mobile, ordered...

Applying for SIN online after landing

The easiest way is to open a bank account online with TD, they will send a letter by post without the need of activating the account (can be done later).
