Hi,

What kind of a job, a 45 years old female - who has done Masters in Mathematics and Bachelor in Education - hope to get in Vancouver?

She has never worked, and is proficient in English.

Regards

You haven't said if the person has PR or is on an open work permit. That can influence how willing an employer is to train someone (generally employers are more willing if someone has PR vs. a work permit).

Certainly retail jobs will be possible (i.e. cashier, grocery store clerk). These will probably be the easiest to get but will likely pay minimum wage.

You can also try for entry level bank jobs (e.g. call centre, etc.).

Tough to get over the fact that she has likely not studied for 20 years and never worked. Really will depend if you can find a reference to get an entry level admin job or government job. Given the high cost of living in Vancouver you may be able to get something like an entry level government job because many have left the city. There is a one year education program for foreign teachers. Not sure if no teaching experience will be an issue.

Thanks.

She is very well educated (two bachelors and a masters) but chose to focus on raising kids instead of working, her own decision - not very uncommon in India :)

We'll look for government/admin jobs for her; while she can pursue the foreign teachers education program.

Thanks.

Government jobs are trickly to break into.

I would aim for private sector jobs.

You’ll likely need an ‘in’ for government jobs. Most applications are done through large scale application. In general with no experience you should try to use contacts, friends, community members, etc. for leads.
