oath on feb 14th, but traveling on mar 19, pr card confusion

that's what im thinking too. in the oath invitation letter tho, they ask us to email them about travel if this is an issue - my concern is i email them and then what if they tell me "well then, we're postponing you... umm, actually, let us get back to you" and then say "september 2022 is the earliest we can do" lol

also i dont think getting the passport will be the problem. its the citizenship certificate thats the variable - what if canada post delays it?
but lets say, it all goes fine and i receive the certificate much sooner - then what if i go to the passport office for urgent application and they say "sorry you're way too fresh off the oven, we need the full time of 30 days to process this... urgent is only for renewals"

Whatever you decide, please do not postpone the Oath. The attendant uncertainties following postponing the Oath make it not worthwhile.
There are several ways to come into Canada as a citizen without a passport, you only need to do some research.
Congrats on becoming a Canadian citizen.

yeah i've decided not to tell them anything until the interview and rather ask them how soon the cert will be mailed out and if urgent passport will be allowed for a new cit certificate.

oh and sure there are no problems coming back in without a passport, but its the going out of country that i will need the PR card for...

You need a valid permanent resident (PR) card to return to Canada by plane, train, bus or boat. If you know your card will expire when you’re travelling, renew it before you leave. You can only renew your card in Canada. We don’t send PR cards to non-Canadian addresses and we don’t allow third parties to get them for you.

No one checks your status when you leave Canada.

and im visiting dominican republic which is why i (passport of india) needed the PR Card (as it's visa-free with pr card) - without a pr card, i'd have to go through the hassle of applying for a tourism visa at their embassy

That's totally different from checking it "so that you can return to Canada". If a country's visa rules say "You need a visa to enter country if you are travelling on a Sri Lankan passport. However, if you have a visa from USA or Canada, you can enter visa free" then the PR card becomes a key part of their decision in allowing you to board the flight. If you show a visa instead then they won't check the PR card.

That's not true.
You need the PR status, proven by the PR card, to travel visa free with your Indian passport. The PR card itself doesn't provide anything without the associated status, and an PR card of previous permanent residents cannot be used for travel purposes.

Yep exactly this. The PR card + Indian passport is what provides visa free access to Dominican Republic.

But if you look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_requirements_for_Canadian_citizens then he won't even need anything more than a Canadian passport since Canadian citizens travel visa free.

maybe i mistyped, or you guys misunderstood. i am aware that i cannot enter the DR without the PR card. this is one of the points of this thread. anyway, i finished my oath and cut up the PR card. the lady said she will send the cert as soon as possible to avoid delays.

No we understood, I don't think you fully got that you don't need the PR card because with a Canadian passport you don't even need a visa for DR

ANyway congrats on the citizenship!
