Dental Insurance - Maxed out - Clarity Required - Please help

Hello,
I have dental insurance via my job for a maximum of $2000 for myself and $2000 for my husband as well.
I have already maxed out my allowance of $2000 because of a complicated root canal treatment. I still need treatments done and it is very, very expensive.
My husband would like me to use his allowance of $2000 to get my remaining extractions done. Is this allowed? Can I use his allowance of $2000 from my company to get treatments done for myself? If yes, can someone please tell me how to tell this to the dentist ?

P.S - I live in BC

Thanks much!

Depends on the policy as you need to read the policy to find out if allocations can be transferred to another person. Some policies state that treatments can be pooled as a “family”. While some are only allocated to that individual.

Short answer is no, you can't. The maximums apply to each of you individually. You cannot use his.

The only way to do this would be to commit fraud and have the dentist fake the papers to say that your husband was the person treated and not you. There's pretty much zero chance the dentist would be wiling to do this since this would put his own job in jeopardy and he could face a license suspension / loss and criminal charges. This would also be a code of conduct violation for you which could result in a loss of all of your benefits and/or being released (fired) from your job with cause.

@Naturgrl Thank you for your reply. That's interesting - I wasn't able to find a line that states that in the policy but I may be able to check this with my company.

@scylla Thanks for your reply. Sounds scary - I'd definitely not want to fake anything. I was hoping I could use his maximum legally possibly like how Naturgrl has mentioned.

If it doesn’t then you probably can’t transfer. With my policy you can’t transfer for dental but we can use things like physio under family. Once person can use the whole allotment.

The maximums are for each individual covered by the policy. You can't increase your maximum for the year and get higher coverage or use your husband's. They are maximums that are applied to each individual separately.

Your options are to pay the costs yourself. Or alternatively, if you can wait, there may be an option for you to wait until the benefit year rolls over before you have the additional procedure. This second option will of course depend on how soon you need to have the additional procedure and when you benefit year rolls over.

No. that's committing insurance fraud. You cannot put your treatment under his name and pretent that's done on him so as to cliam "his allowance".

This is a crime.
