Hello all
I had a question for a family member. she has been accepted to McGill University as a master's student. school starts in January 2022. She's in the process of preparing documents to apply for her study permit and she would like her spouse to join her. I hope someone can help me with the following questions
1- does she apply for the spouse under the same online profile? Where and how does she add the spouse's application?
2- should the spouse apply for a visitor visa OR open work permit?
3- bank account - should they have more than the recommended amount for study/living expenses? by how much?
4- would it help if the spouse has a job offer from Canada? he's self employed and does marketing. his friend has offered him a job as a marketing consultant. would this help him in getting the visa faster?
5- time-line is tight, is it possible to get results until Jan 2022?
Thankkkssss - anything would help!!

All information is on the IRCC website so tell friend to look at requirements.
1. Spouse can apply.
2. Open work permit.
3. They need to show POF at a minimum $16,100.
4. No.
5. Does she have CAQ from Quebec to apply for study permit. Processing time is at least 13 weeks so very tight timelines for January

It will be pretty tough to get approval for CAQ and a study permit before January.

Thanks for the reply! Do you mean $16,100 for one person or both of them (not including tuition)? Also, if they have a joint account I read that she can write a sponsorship letter for her husband explaining the funds would be from one account. is that correct?
She did apply for the CAQ and hasn't received and I believe they can send proof of application for CAQ for the study permit application.
Time is super tight and they're hoping for the best at this point. they just got approval 2 weeks ago from school so they're racing to get the documents ready. not easy during covid right now in Iran to get things done and they're just going to do their best and hope that it works! thanks again for the help.

Minimum is $16,100 (Check IRCC website). They can include a joint account. She needs to include a letter stating why she is applying without CAQ.
