Hello experts,

One of my friends in a similar age bracket (mid thirties) applied along with me to the same college. But her study permit was refused.

I got through and I am yet to reach Canada. My passport and CIC updated.

Both of us have similar educational background, similar career and also applied for the same course. Amongst one of the notes in her GCMS is that the course is not in the same line of work. ( It 100% is in the similar line of work.)

Anyways, my friend has hired a lawyer for re-examination of her application. The lawyer suggested adding my linkedin (where I have mentioned that I am studying in this college) to showcase to the VO that similar case was approved.

I want to know if it's okay. I shouldn't worry about it, right?

In my opinion adding your profile wont have any effect on you BUT you have full right to refuse this. Also this will not help your friend in the slightest. Its possible she didnt not make a good case in her SOP, I dont know what your degree names are but sometimes names are different and someone outside the field is unable to understand its the same thing

Thanks Ayesha. We work in the creative industry. I personally feel that my friend is not residing in their home country currently and that is the number one factor.

Gosh, it makes me feel so uncomfortable to refuse to friends.

that could definitely be the main reason I think, so many refusals here based on that.

So finally the two profiles are not exactly the same. Linking your profile to justify VO wrong decision doesn't sound a good idea. Sometimes friends need to be told the truth. I would be uncomfortable to share link

Is this lawyer your lawyer? Has this lawyer obtained your written consent to do this? If not, this sounds like a violation of privacy law. Your friend need to convince IRCC to approve the application on her own merits. I would personally decline consent to use your info.

Exactly, I went back to hear my friend's recording as I still can't believe it. Lawyer clearly said that she needs a profile of someone with similar background who got approved to attach as an example. I have no idea how the world of law functions, but this clearly sounds like a childish idea.

Not my lawyer. Did not obtain my consent. I will inform my friend about this. Thanks

Just to throw in my 2-cents. Linkedin is still a social media platform. I am not saying that your Linkedin profile is bogus (I don’t know and haven’t seen your LI profile), but just like any socmed platform, any profile can be stretched thin or wide. Some profiles may be flat out lies. So, I don’t understand how can a socmed profile be a credible reference. For me, it’s like citing Wikipedia as reference in your thesis paper.

Only my opinion.
