Hi, I finally have everything gathered for documents. Two quick questions though, we are in Australia and I have lived here since 2009. I have not completed any tax returns for Canada since then. Do I need to provide a tax return? Also I have twin girls (6years) I haven’t worked since before they were born so I have no income to declare. Do we provide income tax returns from Australia or pay slips for the last however many years from my husband? We also have a good sizeable savings to bring with us I assume we send proof of that as well? I do know I need to provide concrete proof we will be residing in Canada which I have spent hours doing, so all good there.

My other question is it asks for my birth certificate which I have but it isn’t the long form it’s the short form. My Canadian passport has expired as well and I will of course be renewing it but with Melbourne and it’s lockdowns I just haven’t done it yet. Do I need to provide my passport at this point or can that wait? My girls have their Canadian citizen certificates so all good there. Thanks for any help.

You don't need to show Canadian tax returns. You and your spouse need to show how you will support yourselves in Canada.

Don't know about the birth certificate. You will all need passports eventually so best get that started.

As a citizen abroad, pay attention to the need to show intent to return to Canada.

Thank you for that, I have really focused on our settling in Canada. Neighbourhood, rentals, school for the girls, gymnastics, swim lessons, car, my husband has provided his resume, his work history, it goes on and on, who we will bank with. I’ve gotten quotes for international removalists, pet transfer quotes. My husband has contact emails with recruiters etc. I know that is the important issue for Outland sponsor and applicant. If you see something we’ve missed let me know. Thanks for the tax info

That sounds pretty extensive to me, but I'm not IRCC )). Only mentioned because some applicants didn't seem to take this part very seriously.

Your plan to support yourselves can include both of you and savings/employment history of both would likely be the main things.

For your passport / birth certificate question: check the instructions, the main thing is to prove your citizenship. Citizenship certificate would be ideal of course. Failing that, including a copy of your expired passport would be helpful (even if not currently valid, it is some evidence of your citizenship - you can explain that you've applied/are applying for renewal). Again I just don't know about the short/long form issue. I presume you must have shown some evidence of your citizenship to get citizenship for your daughters.

I think I must have used my passport to show evidence for my girls citizenship certificates, I’m going to give my old passport as well your right at least it shows I do have a passport. I will do as you suggested and let them know we’ve applied for new ones. I’d have to send to Halifax for a long form birth certificate and I’m sure if they want long It always specifies the long form. I agree on the work history as well so will make sure we show we can and will support ourselves. Thank you again I do appreciate the help :)

Your children will need to travel on their Canadian passports so you'll all need to apply for passports. Would add that the best proof of intent to move to Canada is giving notice in Australia for jobs/rentals or a selling home. You can update your application further into the process for things that are more time sensitive. Often applicants are asked to provide more proof late in the process. When people have been out of Canada for long periods of time either having part of the family return to Canada a bit early or provide proof that you're cutting ties to your current home provides more assurance that you're actually returning.

Oh really? Oh ok well that won’t be a problem for giving notice etc. I was wondering when people said they would give notice for work how they would do that a year in advance. Makes more sense now
