Spouse deported from USA

My company is applying work permit for me and my spouse. But my spouse deported from USA(illegal stay) almost 17 years back which is even before our marriage. Now my question here is i need to submit IMM5257E for me as well as my husband. In which there is a column asking about "Have your ever ordered to leave canada or any other country". I can mention "NO" for my husband since it was happened 15 years back. Else, giving YES will affect his visa processes. Kindly answer my query please.

I think the question is very clear, it's not asking you if it happened in the last 15 years, not sure where you got that. If you deny it you'd be commiting misrepresentation (fraud) and risk getting banned from Canada.

You have to answer yes. If you answer no, you'll be risking a 5 year ban from Canada for misrepresentation. Canada and the US share immigration records.

The deportation was a long time ago so there is certainly a chance of approval. No one here can tell you what those chances will be.

Failing to declare the deportation will definitely result in a refusal and most likely a misrepresentation ban as well. So you have no choice but to declare the deportation.
