AFAIK, if you are making separate applications, then it can be done online. I personally see no issues with this as I have no seen any rule that prohibits this. However, you might want to double-check this with someone who applied more recently and might have done this.

My spouse applied online. If you are sending a single application that is treated as "Single", the term single is not your marital status here. So YES, apply online.
