Hi,

I will be moving to Canada next year. I haven't been able to decide which province, I will be one of the southern provinces. My personal preference is of Alberta, but I am not confident it will be my final choice due the job market.

For engineering roles, it is performed to have certification from your province. I was wondering if its best I apply to Ontario an then can transfer it to whichever province one I can secure a job?

Can someone advice me and share their experience?

PS: I am in Civil (Bachelor's degree)

Not sure of your question for certification. But if you want to work as an “engineer” you need to be licensed if the position requires it. So if you are living in Alberta, you are licensed for that province. You can’t just transfer your license. There is a process for each provincial engineering association. So look at Alberta and see if 1) you will be eligible to be licensed (depends on degree assessment, work experience etc.) and 2) process for transferring. An engineering license can take years.

Thanks. Yes, my mistake. Question was about licence. I am in a bit of a fix, as I am not sure which province I would move to. While I have a preference, job market is primary consideration. Hence I thought, if there was a way to navigate this situation better.

It is not a simple process and can take years depending on your work experience. You may need to start off as an EIT. So when you decide on where you want to settle then start the process. Look at requirements leaving a province midway through licensing and what you can do.
